Please revel in these, Susie Bubble’s pick of the top products shown at Liberty’s Best of British this weekend. Best of British is, as Susie puts it, ‘an open day, set out like a sort of Antique’s Roadshow where designers from up and down the country can come to see buyers in the respective areas’.
It’s basically an opportunity for British designers to show off their wares and potentially, to have them plucked from obscurity and included in Liberty’s carefully curated round up of fashion, beauty, furniture and stationery products.
Susie’s picks incorporate some of my favourite things – velvet, statement jools, wooden accessories, printed scarves and gargantuan rings.
Textile graduate Emma Shipley’s finely detailed silk scarves; a profusion of fauna and flora transferred from paper to fabric.
Retro-inspired wooden accessories by The Eye of the World, which look like they belong on Ursula Andress’ bikini belt in another dimension ( paired with science fiction-inspired clothing by Brooke Roberts)
Emma Calvert’s velveteen neckpieces have me feeling resentful already. They combine three of my big loves – velvet, texture and big, statement neckwear.
Jade Mellor’s resin rings have a prehistoric aesthetic that appeals to my need for unreasonably oversized jools.
That just got my Monday off to a fine start!
